GRC 153-Commercial Printing Processes

    Course Description

  • An intermediate course in commercial printing processes including screen printing and offset lithography. Hands-on class will focus on electronic pre-press and printing methods used in commercial printing.

  • Course Objectives

  • Understand and work with commercial offset lithographic and screen printing technologies.

  • Develop pre-press skills required for successful commercial printing.

  • Evaluate and preflight electronic files for commercial printing.

GRC 118-Computer Graphics/Print Media

    Course Description

  • Foundation course that introduces computer systems and applications as they relate to graphic communication for print media. Class will present a project-based overview of vector-draw, image manipulation, page layout and electronic publishing software. 4 Credits, Prerequisites: GRC 107 and GRC 109

  • Course Objectives

  • The history of graphic communications processes.

  • Basic principles and applications of design and typography in graphic communications.

  • Computer graphics software applications at an introductory level.

  • Past and present printing processes and technologies.

  • Skill requirements for employment in the graphics industry.

  • Course Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of industry standard graphics software applications for print media at an introductory level.

  • Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of design and typography in graphic communications.

  • Students will understand the history of graphic communications spanning from ancient cave paintings to modern commercial printing processes.

GRC 283-Electronic Imaging II

    Course Description

  • An advanced course in the application of graphics software to create pixel based imagery using industry standard pixel based software. Class will cover advanced image manipulation and optimization processes for pixel images as well as simple based animation and video manipulation.

  • Course Objectives

  • Working methods common in visual communications to research advanced visual problems

  • Expansion of rough researched work into refined completed designs

  • Simple linear video editing using industry standard pixel imaging software

  • Simple pixel based animation using linear timelines in industry standard pixel imaging software

  • Presentation of projects in critiques in a consistent, professional manner

  • Course Outcomes

  • Student will demonstrate an understanding of advanced techniques related to creating images with pixel based software by completing software exercises.

  • Student will demonstrate the ability to create successful designs using industry standard pixel imaging software by completing design intensive projects.

  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of simple video animation editing using industry standard pixel imaging software
